Book 7: Corrupted Memories

Book ‘7’ continues the exploration of the poet’s ‘insanity’ and the emerging preoccupation with writing, especially poetry.

The poet is in his mid to late 20’s and has reverted to bricklaying, touring the UK alone, drinking too much and drifting in-and-out of mental-hospitals and is subjected to the ‘electric kiss’ of Electro Convulsive Therapy.

He reminisces on his early marriages, his children and his ‘lost’ youth and attends the mass pickets at Saltley Gates and the pickets in support of the Shrewsbury building workers jailed by a Labour Government… he meets with writer and philosopher James Klugman, Major Yuri Gagarin the Russian Cosmonaut, Colonel-Engineer Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova the first female Russian Cosmonaut, Scottish miners’ leader Mick McGahey, writer and philosopher Maurice Cornforth and NUM Leader Arthur Scargill… as he attends the Communist Universities

Brando sends Sacheen Littlefeather to refuse his Oscar nomination, Allende’s government is overthrown, the poet marries for the third time and is injured in the riots at Red Lion Square… he enters University and the Vietnam War ends, Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge emerge and the poet takes the train to London every week to attend the Grunwick pickets.
